This 24-hour course provides an in-depth presentation and discussion of the NFPA 99, Health Care Facilities Code, 2021 edition. Specifically, the course encompasses the administration, risk categories, and details of a Category 1 medical gas and vacuum system, and the maintenance requirements and recommendations as outlined in NFPA 99 and the ASSE Series 6000 Professional Qualifications Standard for Medical Gas Systems Personnel. In addition to the required coursework, the class is designed to foster interaction and spark conversation among participants in an effort to apply the code to real-world scenarios. Attendees are required to have one-year minimum documented experience in the maintenance of medical gas and vacuum systems.
Upon completion of the class, participants will be able to immediately take the 100-question, multiple-choice exam administered by a third-party test proctor, or at a time of their choosing at an approved test site. As required by ASSE Series 6000 the exam and certification “shall be through a recognized third-party certification agency.” CHT utilizes National Inspection Testing and Certification Corporation (NITC), and participants with a successful score will receive a certificate and identification card valid for three years. This certification will meet the qualification requirements for persons maintaining medical gas systems as outlined in NFPA 99. Additional details can be found at www.nationalitc.com.
Pricing for the class is outlined below and includes all instructor fees, course training materials, including NFPA 99–2021 Health Care Facilities Code and ASSE Series 6000 Professional Qualifications Standard for Medical Gas Systems Personnel, and all NITC exam fees.
The base price for the in-person instruction at your facility (3-day class) is $5,000, plus $450 per person (3-person minimum) + exam fee and materials.

CHT’s Technical Director, Mr. Tim Richards, is an ASSE 6050 Medical Gas Instructor, in addition to holding ASSE credentials as an Installer, Inspector, Verifier, and Maintenance Personnel. Throughout his almost 20-year career, he has also earned installation and service training certifications through multiple medical gas manufacturers and is a member of the NFPA and ASHE, among others. Additionally, Tim has been involved in virtually all aspects of medical gas installations, inspections, testing, maintenance, and accrediting organization surveys.
